Give Maika Monroe a Cape & Cowl and Gotham would be saved in one night.
I typically go into every film with no expectations but of course it was impossible to escape this marketing campaign and glowing early reactions. Currently sitting in the theater as the credits role and I’m conflicted. This wasn’t what I necessarily expected this film to be given the hyperbole surrounding its horror. What we get here is much more of a police procedural psychological thriller mixed with some supernatural elements. You’ve seen all the comparisons to Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, Zodiac & hell even The Batman (I made this up because I’m a comic shill). For the most part, they’re valid. I did however appreciated the use of different aspect ratios and the use of space on the screen to keep you vigilant. Maika Monroe can do absolutely no wrong. She plays cold, meticulous and awkward perfectly. Nic Cage on the other hand is a mixed bag, so basically everything that makes Nic Cage great. Hair and Make-up was a bit ridiculous but looked good! Maybe I’ve developed a tolerance to horror but overall I liked Longlegs but I really should’ve loved it.
If I could use one word to describe Longlegs it would be “Linger” but in the same way a fart lingers (complimentary).
