Just wanted to revisit this before I watch the sequel and this time I really noticed some flaws that are so overlooked it almost makes me desensitised to this film’s many strengths. The art direction and animation is some of the most gorgeous imagery I have ever witnessed but strip that away and you have an origin story that has a plot which is nothing to write home about and is barely saved by various quirks spread all across the film and a new rushed but effective Uncle story. I also found it scarcely funny with most of its humor just bringing a smile on my face. With that being said, I loved every other thing about it. The music is great with the highlight definitely being The Prowler’s theme score it reminds me of The Winter Soldier’s theme. Nic Cage as Spider Noir was a total blast to watch and the others were also pretty interesting. Peter B. Parker was an interesting spin on a character who never runs out of hope no matter how many depictions of him we get to see. Miles and Gwen’s budding relationship needs some work because their chemistry is kinda dull. I just hope Across The Spiderverse will become for me what Into The Spiderverse is for so many people.
