The Revenant is a test. It's a test of your endurance. It's a test of your stomach. It's a test of defying cinema logic. It's a test of Leonardo DiCaprio's acting chops. Overall, The Revenant is a risk, and a test... and it passes with flying colours.
The Revenant is hands down, from the films I've watched, 2015's gem film, with stellar acting, gorgeous visuals and a portrayal of the strength of the human condition. The film pits a frontiersman against the wilderness, himself, man and indigenous populations as he struggles in his pursuit of vengeance, after being left for dead after a vicious bear mauling.
Speaking of the bear mauling, what an intense scene! And, in what I like to call the "Saving Private Ryan, Omaha Beach" conundrum, the film never really hits the height of that experience once it occurs. Having said that, it does come close on occasions.
I loved The Revenant and it was a grueling piece of cinema, with genuine emotion and supreme craft. I'm looking forward to watching it again, despite its tough content and long run-time.
