The Wild Robot

The Wild Robot

There's a new competitor for what's the best animated movie about a robot.

There's a lot to talk about here, from the amazing visuals, phenomenal score, simple story, and charming characters. Truly it's an amazingly prepared and served movie.

Roz is a perfect robot archetype, but the way she moves and acts is always a great spectacle. When she's preparing the flight training course and she doesn't put a hoop but SLAMS it on the ground, it just felt so good on the montage. Her colors and dedication to completing the task as a newfound mother is equally heartwarming and heartbreaking.

Fink and Brightbill are both great companions. Fink is obviously the too cool but not really character who has his own arc as he bonds with Roz in his own way. Brightbill is a lovable little guy but as he tries to become his own self realizes he won't be the same but instead always stand out. A perfect conflict for this familial group.

Then of course there's the multiple other forest creatures who all have their own traits and arcs with adopting Roz. I also love how their eyes glow in the dark such a small but great detail.

There's also so many good scenes here but the two absolutely stand outs are the ready to migrate scene and the forest attack. In the first one, the score and emotion is on full throttle, the two people beside me also had to wipe a tear from how charged it was. As for the forest attack, the animals arcs finally came full circle and the devastatingly beautiful purple flames brought imminent threat.

I understand people feel a bit conflicted with the message but like I wasn't too bothered. It's an animated movie after all, it isn't perfect.

Lastly, I've never been so happier to see credits that replay moments from a movie. Such a great ride.

The Wild Robot shares its big heart and love to all. Phenomenal animation accompanied by an emotional story, a grand musical score, and fun characters makes this movie hit in the fuzzies when you least expect it.
