I have no connection or really exposure to Wicked outside of MIKA’s cover of “Popular” (ironically featuring Ariana Grande). That being said, this is about as close to perfect as you can get for a movie musical in 2024. I wasn’t impressed by the marketing, but in context, everything looks beautiful and the choreography and cinematography is stunning. Jon M. Chu continues to impress with every feature, and I look forward to what he continues to develop into.
(seeing Gladiator II this weekend but I can personally attest that at least half of Glicked is incredible)
