The good: Wild to say this as an Ariana Grande fan of 10+ years, but good for her ignoring music post ‘positions’ era. The Great Drought was worth the wait and hopefully just the beginning of more movies. Loved Bowen Yang and his glasses. Jonathan Bailey jumping off his horse is a moment to hold space for. Cynthia Erivo is perfect.
The bad: Wanted to see some exposition for Bowen Yang & Bronwyn James’ characters because where did they come from? Jon Chu please give us the blooper reels.
Final thoughts: Praying Part 2 isn’t a flop because this felt pretty front-loaded, no? The Marvel-ification of Broadway will be studied in textbooks, looking forward to a theme park. So happy to see Ariana being recognized as the hilarious gay man she is at heart. She should use the ‘Wicked’ money and lock Matt Stone/Trey Parker in a laboratory to write a musical comedy specifically for her because she only deserves the best at this point. She will be EGOT’ing and working til age 99.
