Wicked: Part One is a 2024 musical directed by Jon M. Chu from a screenplay by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox. It is the first of a two-part film adaptation of the stage musical of the same name by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, which in turn was loosely based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire. The film stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, with Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum. In events set before the story of the Wizard of Oz. Wicked fellow two Witches as they attend a college called Shiz University. A colorful school with human and talking animals. Elphaba the wicked with of the West was born a outcast do to her color of her skin. Soon she meets Glinda, a want to be sorceress. And later becomes Glinda the white witch of the North. Both from a friendship unlike any other. The story in scope is so big, director Jon M. Chu decided to split the film into two part. So he wouldn't had to cut any song and music numbers. As well to expand characters storyline and plays respects. Now this is the second play Jon M. Chu adaptation in 2021 In the Hights. Wicked was announced all the way back in 2012. Due to set backs and the pandemic. The film officially started filming both parts in 2021.

Everyone music numbers left me with goosebumps as I seen some of my favorite songs play out on the big screen. I'm a lover of musical and know some haven't had a good time at the domestic box office. In my opinion this is one of the best adaptation of a play. Unlike Cats, Evan Hanson, into the woods. Wicked is on par with the film like La mis, Mean Girls, Wonka, and West Side Story.

If you not a fan of musical I would recommend you skip out on this movie. Also hope everyone going in knows this is a two part musical. Wicked also explores so many theme, that resonate with you after you walk out of the theater. This is a great film for the holiday season.
