This a love letter to LOST and the show's fans alike. Whilst missing a few core cast members that declined to be in it, most every topic you'd expect to be covered in a documentary about LOST is spoken about in pretty great detail. But this documentary's greatest achievement is highlighting the communities that formed around one of the most influential juggernauts of television in the mid to late 2000's.
LOST was groundbreaking. It broke the television mould in so many different ways from the show itself to the way we consumed it. Getting LOST expertly showcases the impact LOST had on television and pop culture doing so with just the right amount of nostalgia. The trip down memory lane is easy to be caught up in. If like me, you remember the agonising wait from week to week between episodes and you were trawling the various Internet forums looking for clues or theorising with other Losties. This documentary is for you. But if you weren't around during the initial airing of LOST, this documentary may fascinate you too.
This documentary is not afraid to address some of the darker more recent behind the scenes elements developments of LOST in particular the final portion of this film is a direct response to the 2023 book; Burn It Down: Power, Complicity, And A Call For Change In Hollywood. The book that broke news on some of the awful treatment and bullying taking place behind the scenes, many had to unfortunately endure whilst working on LOST.
Everything that happened, happened.
I'm by definition a Lostie. I've rewatched the show countless times. I believe it is a show everybody should see at least once. I loved the ending and I genuinely believe the show is about as perfect as six seasons of long form cable television can possibly get. So naturally this documentary spoke to me a lot. It's made by fans for fans but even if you hated the ending, I'd recommend this documentary to you because yes, naturally they talk about it. At length. Getting LOST is a a very solid documentary taking a look back at one of telvision's biggest highlights and it is a truly wonderful watch.
