The Annabelle doll is so creepy! And the Warren’s house in this film is 70s time capsule perfection!! This narrative is strongest when Vera Farmiga & Patrick Wilson are on screen. I had watched the film before & forgotten about it, but then parts of the story came back to me as it went along.
It seemed I would love a movie led by three young complex female protagonist characters (the Warren’s daughter Judy, her babysitter Mary Ellen, & the friend Daniela)…it was ok, but also didn’t 100% work. Perhaps if the stories behind the possessed objects had been clarified more? The only one I was familiar with was Annabelle, who has less appearances in this film than in the other two. Also there was a lot of screaming, I struggled to care about the girls even though all three characters had well developed stories.
Mostly this was like a carnival thrill ride, where the build up of suspense is greater than the result. Still a worthwhile watch, especially for fans of this franchise (& I am!). The best Annabelle IMO is “Annabelle Creation”.🖤
