Without a doubt, one of the 5 greatest movie ever made (if not the greatest). Watching Michael turning into a cold, vicious, ruthless bastard is something to behold.
I am not going to say anything more, since everything has been said already. I just have a couple of questions:
Do you think Michael ever talk to Kay about his wife in Sicily? I don't believe he ever mentioned it to her in subsequent movies (if my memory is correct). In fact that whole sequence seems forgotten and detach with the rest of the movie. Sort of like a dream sequence that never happened.
Don Vito Corleone never wanted Michael to succeed him. When he heard that Michael killed Sollozzo and McCluskey, he was visibly upset and disappointed. So his original plan was probably have Sonny to eventually be the Godfather, but deep down he knows Sonny is a hot-head and can't never be the Don. Fredo is Fredo. Tom Hagen is an outsider, so the other families won't respect him. Who would he pass on his business to if it's not Michael?
