Seeing Steven Spielberg, Stephen Sondheim, and John Williams sharing an end credit roll is something I never thought I would see and I will cherish forever. Nobody does it like these three and nobody ever will.
I’m very honored to share a feature I’ve written on both screen adaptions of West Side Story. While it’s the longest piece I’ve had published, it barely touches upon all that makes these two pieces of movie musical filmmaking so extraordinary. If I managed to muster even a fraction of the thought and passion Spielberg injects into every frame of this film, then I’d be proud of the job I’d done.
