I've been hesitant to watch this particular Muppets movie because I've never found a version of "Treasure Island" that I truly enjoyed. However, as expected, the Muppets bring a delightful and bombastic energy to the classic story, infusing it with new layers of heart. Though the narrative gets a bit messy, especially in the action-packed third act, the film's ambitious production design and inventive puppet work are consistently impressive and engaging. Tim Curry is perfect as a musical theatre pirate, and there are some great tongue-in-cheek recurring bits from all our favorite Muppets.
