"Now I am become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds" was J. Robert Oppenheimer's reply to Barbie's "You guys ever think about dying?". This is primarily not well-known because it's not true.

I was pleasantly surprised by watching Oppenheimer... I used to be a massive Nolan fanboy and still love all of his movies up until the mid-2010s. Around that point, I feel like his indulgence took over and I didn't enjoy his stuff that much anymore (haven't seen Tenet to this day). And a lot of reviews criticized his latest one for this, but it really is impressive!

This whole film is a giant flex in every way: Sure, theatres are packed with action blockbusters but I'm going to make my next summer hit a biopic about the creator of the atomic bomb! It's also going to be three hours long, who's going to stop me? The main role will go to the guy who's been in most of my films and never had a huge leading movie role so far and Robert Downey, Jr. will get to reactivate his dramatic acting chops! In fact, literally every single role will be played by a recognizable actor - some of whom were lead stars of entire TV shows and hit movies and get like three lines here because they'll be happy just for being in it, right?

The stuff that came up in most reviews, like the never-ending score and the heavy length, only bothered me two or three times. Okay, this definitely could have benefited from a good 45 to even 60 minutes trim and didn't require the non-linear storytelling but I was positively surprised how compelling it was for the most part! The all-star cast really did an amazing job (Murphy, Downey jr. and Damon and, during her speech, Blunt were the standouts for me).
