JTA The Film Passionator’s review published on Letterboxd:
“‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ is a worthy sequel that still allows the franchise to climb to success!”
Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) is a well made superhero based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name, and is directed by Jon Watts. It features Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jake Gyllenhaal, Samuel L. Jackson, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, and Cobie Smulders.
Serving as a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming and a follow-up to Avengers: Endgame (2019), the movie follows Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Holland) going on a school trip around Europe, but it is assigned by Nick Fury (Jackson) to destroy the Elementals with Mysterio (Gyllenhaal).
After a rewatch, this sequel still has an interesting story that was well executed and just as good as the previous film, which helped me understand the brilliant character development of Peter Parker in the MCU. This was helped by the well-balanced tone.
The amazing plot twist of Mysterio revealing his true nature was written fantastically as it did not feel rushed and remains true to the evil personality of his comic counterpart.
The performances from the cast were still outstanding, especially from Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Like the previous film, Michael Giacchino’s soundtrack was still epic to listen to because it has the same thrills and excitement that was captured in its predecessor.
The action scenes were more exciting because of the impressive visual effects on the Elementals, the thrilling soundtrack (as I have mentioned above), and the overall exciting feeling of the film due to the incredible cinematography.
Another aspect I loved about the film was the humour used in the film thanks to Samuel L. Jackson’s performance as Nick Fury, and the chemistry between Peter and Ned.
Overall, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) still remains an excellent Spider-Man film and was a satisfying conclusion of Phase Three.
