Sure it's a "filmbro" type movie, but guess what... It's Great! I do think certain aspects are underrated and others are overrated. I've always thought the story feels super formulaic and a bit generic, but I look past it when the rest of your movie is as creative as it is. Personally for me, it's not the best Spider-Man movie. There are just themes in Spider-Man 2 that just hit so much harder to me, than the "anyone can wear the mask" theme. Must say though, this is probably a more accessible theme for others to understand. I can clearly see many being influenced by characters in this movie, and I think that's great. Really wish the animation was recognized just a bit more. I just think that is by far the strongest point of the film. The most creative animation I've seen in a film, and I love how mainstream it was. I like how the film takes risks, and they've clearly payed out over the 2 years this thing has been out. It's a great movie, masterpiece? No, but I don't necessarily think it's setting out to be one. Also that score is genuinely fantastic. Not the soundtrack, but the score has so many iconic themes already, like the excellent Prowler theme. Also, I was laughing thinking about it afterwards, but I will never forgot seeing this a second time in theaters. These little kids next to me and my brother legitimately started tearing up at Peni Parker's robot suit being destroyed. Like bruh, it's a robot suit, it's just gonna get rebuilt. But anyways great movie. I'll leave you with one final fact; Spider-Man 2 is the best Spider-Man movie.
