As incredibly messy and low-effort as the other Spider-Man-less Spider-Man movies in “Sony’s Spider-Man Universe,” that, thankfully, is now ending. Alessandro Nivola gives a performance as the Rhino about as bad as Tahar Rahim as Ezekiel Sims, with maybe even worse ADR. As for Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino, it’s shown throughout that he has the powers to become Rhino (even his license plate reads “1R-HI-NO”💀), and he goes in the full form only in the final battle for maybe a few minutes, and it looks ridiculous. Rhino’s supposed to be big why is he wearing pants? And I can’t forget one scene where Sytsevich, in human form, looks out the window and makes the strangest yell that got a laugh from the audience. Honestly I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be funny or not. The narrative has no flow, it jumps from plot point to plot point, random character to random character, location to location, and it truly feels like half the scenes could be arranged in any order. Like who even is the Foreigner? The R-rating is an unnecessary gimmick that was chosen for the wrong superhero movie at the wrong time. Russell Crowe’s performance as Sergei’s and Dmitri’s father feels phoned in and his accent is too much. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is wasted. How Sony managed to deliver yet another unusually terrible film in their stupid idea for a shared universe is beyond me.
