Estimating this is my 5th or 6th viewing (?) and I’ve never noticed how brilliant Giacchino’s score is. I’ve always considered his work on Up to hold the most profound emotional resonance. But in terms of composing ingenuity, the motifs and melodies of Ratatouille’s music is unparalleled. There’s a always an underlying energy and it helps to bring the picture to life. Brad Bird’s vehement and distinctive direction works as a perfect complement to the score. And overall, this is very much a perfect film. The Parisian vibes, the wonderful landscapes, the beautiful animation. I could make a list of positive superlatives but, to save your time and mine, I’ll refrain from it. Just know this is elite level filmmaking.
