I was going back and forth on rewatching this for almost all of this DreamWorks marathon. I wasn’t intending on rewatching any of their movies that I’ve seen recently, but this is also by far my favorite of their films. I guess after watching Puss in Boots: The Last Wish twice in this marathon, I figured I kinda have to put this on again. And I’m glad I did, because what a fucking spectacular note to end the marathon on.
I still stand by this being the best DreamWorks movie so far, something I’m not completely proud of since this is their latest movie, but I also find it undeniable that practically everything in this movie works. The animation, the voice acting, the music, the comedy, the drama, the action, the adventure, everything about it brings this story to a level few other movies have reached, telling a fairly familiar story with such a new life and vision. One thing this marathon has shown me is how inconsistent the films DreamWorks puts out is, but when they get it right, they fucking soar.
The Wild Robot is the highest they’ve soared yet.
