La La Land is full of whimsy and wonder yet somehow manages to capture the very real sensations of hardship and heartbreak.
I have to commend La La Land on its use of color and it lives up to its name. I also like the focus on the primary colors of red, blue, and yellow, and it works seamlessly with the film. I also love the tap dance scene, there’s something so satisfying about tapping. It works so well with all the Old Hollywood imagery and is so magical and whimsical to watch.
However, I think there were unnecessary scenes that detracted from what I think the film was trying to convey. I preferred the emphasis on the two main characters and their interconnected stories, and I think the film was able to shine the brightest when it focused on that. At times, it almost seemed to derail itself from its premise, at least in my eyes.
-Emma’s yellow dress >>> but for some reason I don’t really like her singing. At least, I don’t like when she sings higher notes. I liked her last song the best.
-overall, there were lots of things I did like about the film, I just don’t think it’s for me :/
