I turned this on because I was bored and I genuinely enjoyed every minute of this like truly this was a lot of fun and it brought back a lot of good memories for me without being a nostalgia hole. I, like most 13 year olds on Tumblr, watched every episode of this show (David Tennant, you will always be famous) and then I grew up and thought it was cringe (it is but that's okay) and then, surprisingly, I came back to it when my dad started watching the new episodes. I really loved watching the Peter Capaldi episodes with him, it felt really special (Peter Capaldi I will come to whatever retirement home you're currently in and [redacted]). I haven't seen many of the new episodes past his season, so imagine my surprise to watch this special and find it exciting and enchanting.
Spoilers, but having the Meep be a war criminal is fucking hilarious and somehow feels like a pointed critique of Disney, who's cute creatures are marketed to hell and sold to the masses. I also, of course, loved the trans allegory like I really enjoyed Yasmin Finney in Heartstopper and she was amazing as Donna's daughter. I'm glad young people have stuff like this now, and I'm glad that Doctor Who has embraced their fandom instead of turning them away.
