First of all, let me just say that I love going to the movies so much. This is the first film in the film festival I'm sort of attending and I had a good time. Therefore, I'm probably rating this film higher just because movies are always better on the big screen.
With that being said, there's a lot to like about this: weird bird women, a perverse insemination plot, Dan Stevens (the only blond man to deserve rights) plays a gay little flute several times, Hunter Shafer is awesome, it's set in the 80s, there's a big old lesbian kiss, etc.
I think for me, however, this didn't do anything new. Besides the creepy bird women and sound engineering, it's pretty run of the mill. It's sort of an homage to German sci-fi/horror I guess. It reminded me of that Netflix show Dark which I didn't really like because it ended up being too convoluted. I'm not really big on time travel tbh and this had a little bit of that and it kind of turned me off. I also thought that the other actors besides Dan Stevens and Hunter Shafer were boring. Really, this reminded me of the Species movies that I accidentally saw my parents watching when I was like 7 and it scarred me for life. Perhaps I will go back and watch those as an adult.
