54%🪫Moana 2 unfortunately suffers from a sophomore slump and is nowhere near as captivating as the first one. In fact, Disney needs to shake up their formula and fast because it normally works for me. Here, it felt stale and tedious with a barely there plot. With that being said it has enough charm and the voice acting is rather good so it gets a pass.
I’m a bit taken aback at my dissatisfaction with this because the first one was a slam dunk winner and it was original atleast in terms of intellectual properties go. You’d think they’d have managed to expand the story and evolve into something more engaging than this. It almost felt like a Disney special of sorts, it had no heft.
& while it may seem I’m hating on the film I’m more puzzled that Disney for once didn’t win me over. I’ll slap ho’s over that “evil corporation” idc idc. Lmao. But they let me down here. Shame. The music also for what again seems like a first didn’t have that earworm effects Disneys songs have. Hmmmm 🤔🤔
It is gorgeous to boot though and isn’t obnoxious which would’ve been the death knell for me. There are plot threads that aren’t tied up and I’m sure they’re left as is to make room for a 3rd part but can we please stop making films with the 6 installment in mind when we’re only on the second. Jfc.
While failing to reach the aquatic beauty and losing all thematic richness the first one contained it’s still a solid flick for families. I saw this with my sister, nephew and youngest sister and we had a good time, that for me accounts for a lot. My sister and I, she’s 28 debated on the decline in quality because we both agreed it could’ve been better but it was fine. It’s farthest reaching theme I would say is that of finding your way even if you don’t know exactly where you’re going and how your ancestry will guide you in profound ways. Overall this was okay. // Upcoming🎬 🔜• Sugar & Spice (2001)
