“Einstein said time was relative, right? Maybe I’m not late. Maybe you guys are early”

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has been a movie that has been on my watchlist for a long time. There’s no doubt that this movie has a huge following in the film community as so many people love this movie. I can see why this gets so much love as I definitely enjoyed watching this movie. This film was ambitious for a Spider-Man movie because it is so unique that people were either going to love it or hate it. I’ve seen so much about how stunningly beautiful this film is. I’ve always had a little bit of skepticism about that because how good can an animated movie look compared to real life. But this film truly is stunning to look at. The art style resembling a comic book as you could see hints in every single frame. It even had the thought bubbles in some scene and sound effects like “bang”. On top of this, the music was on point too as a more hip hop sound track that included Sunflower by Post Malone (which is a bumping song).

On top of having a bunch of Spider-Mans and villains such as Prowler, Kingpin, Green Goblin and Doc Ock, this voice cast was amazing. Hailee Seinfeld, Nicholas Cage, Chris Pine, Mahershala Ali, the names go on and on. And something I commend this movie on is just how diverse it’s characters are. Not only does is have a person of color in the main role as Spider-Man, which is fantastic alone but to also have a woman as a villain that has historically been male. I actually watched this movie in two half’s, the first 50 minutes one day and the last hour the next. The first half was definitely more of a letdown as it was the same old Spider-Man origin with a little twist, but still on the slower paced side. However, the second half more than made up for it giving it the positive score. The last 20/30 minutes are great as Miles finally becomes his own Spider-Man. The final battle is great and him reuniting with his father was a great way to end that storyline as well. Overall, a movie I really liked, just a little less that it’s average rating.

Overall Rating: A-

Me and a couple friends talk more in depth about this movie and Leonardo DiCaprio filmography in the newest episode of the Film Code Podcast.
