Hadn’t seen this in years, probably not since it first came out. I forgot just how much I love about this.
I love the Great Expectations allusion that I somehow completely missed the first time and how it perfectly reflects the struggles Miles himself is going through and the pressure from others to fit in a certain way. I love all the little details and loving homages in the animation and design. I love Jake Johnson who will never not make me laugh my ass off whenever Peter B. Parker is on screen. And most of all I love how this movie isn’t afraid to be vulnerable sometimes and explore interesting ideas about the concept of Spiderman itself. What if Spiderman doesn’t want to be Spiderman? What if there are multiple Spidermen? Can I still be Spiderman without sacrificing what makes me unique?
I got it all wrong the first time, this is one of the greatest animated films ever.
