I enjoyed this way more than I had expected. I knew that I wasn't going to hate it based on that the premise spoke to me and I'm a fan of both Russell Crowe (in the right roles) and Ryan Gosling. However, the amount of fun I had with "The Nice Guys" came as a surprise to me. If there's two things comedies like this one need, the first is chemistry between the lead actors. And while it's still pretty early to say that, Gosling and Crowe really come close to duos such as Mel Gibson / Danny Glover or Robert De Niro / Billy Crystal. In addition to that, Angourie Rice does a really good job as well. Equally important, the second thing is of course a good script and this one really worked. As in most comparable movies, the story is not really important but the dialogue has to kill it. In the case of "The Nice Guys", a really large quantity of the jokes worked right on. Sure, the film has its sentimental moments from time to time but it totally makes up for those with all the instances where it's completely aware of its ridiculous and frequent over the top humor. Bottom line: -"The Nice Guys" is definitely worth a watch and probably rewatches. -Ryan Gosling should do more comedies as long as they're of this quality. -I'd actually watch a sequel of this (and it's not like the final scene isn't hinting at one).
