Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery

Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery

Difficult to place this one - it’s trying to straddle two lines, which weakens it as a whole. There’s a lot of Bitcoin/Crypto 101 stuff - a LOT. A lot a lot. So for people who are unfamiliar with it this could function as a good primer catered towards a CNN type audience. However, if you have even a basic knowledge of it, then it’s going to get pretty boring.

Then there’s the side of it that plays to Cullen Hoback’s strengths - falling down a rabbit hole with elusive and strange tech people. While they don’t compare to the people he met in his Q-anon doc, there are some interesting weirdos.

The marketing all made it about the revealing of who Satoshi is. Sadly that aspect overshadowed everything involved with this - and made it easily dismissible by the community it’s looking at. There’s some interesting evidence that points to Peter Todd, the scene where Cullen lays out his theory to Peter is pretty great. I’m not sure it’s as compelling as Jim and Ron Watkins as Q, but I could believe it. Peter’s reactions didn’t help him.

I think the question not asked is - why does it matter who Satoshi is? There’s the allure of the theoretical secret trillionaire, but the money has too many eyes on it to be used without revealing himself. I can buy the theory that Satoshi burned the money, tossed away the key, and has several whale wallets of BTC that can be used freely. If they can’t use the huge cache, what does it matter? There’s no legal charges that can/will be brought against him, no more innovation that can be done on the platform… what can anyone do with him? It’s like knowing who designed the circuitry in the phone you’re using to read this - what are you gonna do, say thank you? Just say “oh cool” and move on?
