Daddy Ozon is back with another banger! The Crime Is Mine, a screwball feminist murder mystery, brings the same chaotic, camp energy of 8 Femmes or Potiche, and is a guaranteed fun time.
A period drama set in Paris in the 1930s, this is both visually stunning and story-wise unpredictable. A young actress and her lawyer roommate have to team together to fend off a murder charge and an extremely sexist public, but the truth is far more than meets the eyes. Nadia Tereszkiewicz and Rebecca Marder were decent in their leading roles, but for me, the familiar supporting players of former Ozon collaborators stole most of the highlight, especially Isabelle Huppert, whose animated portrayal of an insane silent era star past her prime is genuinely a hoot. Recommended.
