(After a family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her teenage daughter, Astrid, accidentally opens the portal to the Afterlife.)
Well first thing I want to say is that I’m glad that this exist I love seeing all these characters That I’ve loved for so many years back on the screen and Jenna Ortega fit in so well here. If Tim Burton films do anything right it’s the practical effects and it’s super good here and even all the cgi mixed in there looked really good for the most part. I love the way this looked I don’t think it looked just like the first one but it has its own look and I enjoyed it. Like I said Jenna Ortega is really great here as Astrid, Lydia’s daughter and they work together so well they really felt like mother and daughter here. Winona Ryder really captured this character again which was a concern of mine going in. Catherine O'Hara Plays this role so well and she kills it here. Willem Dafoe is also great here playing a detective character and he looked like he was having so much fun. But Michael Keaton was born to play beetlejuice and he really proves that here diving right back into that role so damn well and his lines delivery and every thing this was a incredible performance from him I just really wish there was more of him this go around. I really loved a story line involving Ortega and a young boy she meets in this town that was probably the most compelling part of this whole film.
I do gotta say this just felt over stuffed to me just a lot of different story lines it made for a very convoluted narrative. One character in particular that was so annoying and honestly didn’t even need to be in it really dragged the movie down for me. I didn’t love the script all that much. And honestly this isn’t the films fault but it just isn’t as good as the first one by any means but that is a tall tall order.
But over all like I said I’m glad this is a thing because I love this universe and these characters a lot.
