Oppenheimer

Oppenheimer

almost disappointed but not entirely surprised I come to the conclusion that Oppenheimer is not as intense and earth shattering as expected.
while Göransson's score and the sound design in general made my chest tremble at times, it suddenly stopped in the most important moment, which was a brave move, yet also a good example that many individual decisions didn't work out for me in the end to really leave a mark. for sure the movie is impressive as an overall concept, but do you expect anything else from Nolan? I went in with high expectations and left without any lasting outbursts of emotion.
what clearly thrilled me were the many familiar faces and as soon as one left the screen, a new one appeared and every single time I was like "um, hello?". a Nolan movie in ones repertoire is certainly desirable for probably every actor and actress. however as a consumer of his works, especially as a female one, I would wish for the future that the women in his films weren't written so poorly and were given more development and personality instead of, to put it drastically, just being the pretty appendage. this was particularly evident in Florence Pugh's role as Jean Tatlock. it's not as if I didn't thoroughly enjoy the scenes with her, I mean she's my number one crush, but the woman behind this role, as a psychoanalyst, was far more than just Oppenheimer's mistress who enjoyed it when he read her Sanskrit.
Nolan creates movies rather for the eyes and ears than for the heart (apart from my many cry baby moments during Interstellar, but that's a whole different and much deeper story) and while I may not be the right audience, I will still watch every one of them for the many countless reasons that make his films absolutely worth seeing.
