Ok before I get into why I loved this, the wrestler has to be commended for achieving something I thought impossible...it convinced me Mickey Rourke can act!?! And that can not be understated.
So much to love here though, yes I'm a big wrestling fan so of course I enjoyed this probably more than the average viewer, however there is much more to this than just wrestling. It tackles life, death and relationships all in the typical Aronofsky way while keep you thoroughly entertained. The music is awesome, having actual wrestlers and wrestling shows was a welcome surprise and the wrestling itself was actually pretty accurate. My favourite part of the film though was the outstanding final sequence which left the film in perfect ambiguity which I adored.
Aronofsky is quickly becoming one of my favourite directors and the Wrestler for me is another one of his triumphs, can't wait to watch more of his films.
