When Nolan took a look at how his brain worked (and at like, making art blah blah blah) and thought, "Maybe this isn't such a good thing." Doesn't stop him from giving us that silly twist of course (no not that one, THAT one), but at least we figured out early on he was capable of some self-analysis.
And that final shot still gives me chills.
