The final straw for me was when Mescal's Lucius turned into Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick (talk to me, Maximus).
I'm going to give Ridley Scott the benefit of the doubt. I'm going to assume he was nowhere near the making of this movie. Some big fan of Gladiator 1 had a lucrative collab with chatgpt while Scott caught up on his beauty sleep.
As for how Denzel got tricked into wasting his time here. Well I mean, just look at those robes. He should not be in the running for Best Supporting Actor, though. He does no support this film. He throws it off its axis. He sticks his finely robed leg out and sends it tumbling into the dirt. His very presence serves as a constant reminder of how indifferently and even haphazardly shaped, acted, and dramatized everything around him is.
