But seriously, I am legit surprised this dry-ass, dull, tedious talky mess made a billion dollars. Like, it’s a fine enough movie, with fine performances. But I really don’t get what people saw in this.
To me, Oppenheimer was all of Christopher Nolan’s weaknesses as a filmmaker, cranked to a nauseating 11. It’s hollow, emotionless, flat, and feels cut together from a twenty hour miniseries. The romantic elements lack romance, and the leads lack chemistry. The core theme of the picture is almost completely lost in the hubris of its own storytelling methods (the story is also a fifth as tragic, or fascinating, as Alan Turing’s tale, told in the vastly superior war drama, The Imitation Game)
Immeasurably disappointed by Oppy, and super glad I didn’t drive six hours to see this fumble in 70MM.
