More so a tragic family story of that which came from tragedy. The Witch came from thy TV, and was still as immersive of an experience as surely real life must have been.
Was never quite scared by this movie, but it provided great shock. Well acted, directed, and shot. This movie really transported me back to the time. It was incredible how I could be so engrossed but not understand some of what was being said. The range of emotions that had to be conveyed by the characters is astonishing. I give it 5 stars not because I think it is one of the best movies I have ever seen, but because I cannot find flaw with it. Few other movies have made me feel as if I was in the time period—Chinatown comes to mind as the best.
Most shots felt like paintings which created an sense of stillness amongst the lives of the characters on screen. Was I ever bored? No. Some think it is a “slow burn”, however I was engrossed by the character development, and the cinematography I was witnessing. Truly a work of art.
