There we were minding our own business, just doing chores around the house, when kids started killing themselves all over my property. -Tucker
Eli Craig's feature film directorial debut still holds up on repeat viewing. One of the major factors as to why it works is that it's premise for a horror spoof is simple yet original enough that it was never really done before. It's a simple concept, especially when considering how many horror films have a gang of unlikeable teenagers going up against the charismatic killers. Switching that up makes the film feel very fresh.
The other major factor why this film works is because of Alan Tudyk (Tucker) and Tyler Labine (Dale). They have a great buddy chemistry in this film with a great give and take between their two characters. Like I had mentioned before, the film could be called Tucker & Dale's Vacation Home and simply be about these two buddies fixing up the cottage and it would still be highly entertaining.
The college kids also work great for the simple fact that unlike other horror films where they are supposed to be the victims but come off as douchebags , here they are douchebags that come off as douchebags. I just really love the entire simple concept behind this film and hope they make a sequel for the simple fact that having something this f'd up happen to the boys again would cause a hilarious and priceless look on Tucker's face. That would be worth it alone.
