Ridiculously fun on every single level imaginable. It has a great story. It's funny. It's emotional. It hits all the right beats. It has an original animation style that is incredibly cool. It's also full of action. What more could you possibly want? Ok, throw in a stinger at the end that will work if you're a casual fan but make comic book fans completely geek the fuck out. There. Perfect. Spider-Man. Film.
When Sony first announced they were doing an animated Spider-Man film my first reaction was that they were going to screw up their working relationship with Marvel concerning the character. Then when it was revealed that it would center on Miles Morales I thought that was incredibly cool, because it's a character that we will not see in a live action movie any time soon (if ever), but still thought it was probably going to suck. Not because of the character, but because I'm conditioned to automatically think that everything will fall apart. Holy shit was I wrong.
So using a character that might never end up in a live action movie is one thing, but they went even further and did a story that would never be done in a live action movie and bring in even more characters that will never be seen in a live action movie. Fucking brilliant! Even better is the fact that either the writers already loved these characters or they did their god damn research because Phil Lord and Rodney Rothman wrote these characters like they knew and loved them.
Really loved this movie. Had so much damn fun watching it.
