I might be biased, but I watched this movie with my friends, so I'm guessing that also affected the reason why I gave this such a high rating.
After so many years, they finally made a sequel to Moana, and before I start, I just want to say, I'm not a big fan of the direction they were going for in this movie. Don't get me wrong, introducing new characters and concepts are not new to Disney sequels, in fact, this one kinda reminded me of those really old Disney sequels, but the way it gets kinda repetitive at times is kinda disappointing.
The one down side that I think everyone can agree on is the fact that the songs are not catchy enough, like after the whole movie, I can't remember any verse from any of the songs. The absence of Lin-Manuel Miranda is really noticeable, they relied too much on references from the first movie that they forgot to add new stuffs.
But, I think despite all of those flaws, this movie is still pretty great, especially the ending. I actually teared up a little because I realized that the next one is probably going to be released when I'm in college, and I really don't want to grow up to think about that yet.
Overall, I really enjoyed Moana 2, it's fun and entertaining. I had a good time, and tbh my friends did too, they said that they enjoyed this one more than Inside Out 2, on which I really can't blame them. The mid-credit scene is fantastic, I'm so glad to see HIM back (iykyk).
