Mia Goth is absolutely a star, there’s a very fine line between “homage” and “surface level copycat”, and Ti West is nowhere near the prolific gift to the genre that he clearly thinks he is—basically everything that’s held true throughout this whole trilogy. I want to like every single movie and I’m happy a series like this exists, but yeah nah I’m now completely out on West; the dude’s really just a pretentious softcore porn guy who thinks he’s a hardcore horror visionary. A couple great practical gore effects can’t save something so tonally skin-deep and insubstantial, especially when it all hinges on one of the dumbest and most predictable third acts in recent memory; plus, missing the mark on emulating my favorite genre (80s slashers/giallo) is only ever gonna piss me off anyway. Pass.

Shoutout Giancarlo Esposito & Kevin Bacon tho. Also, the only thing that caused me more physical pain than that sack stomp was Halsey’s “accent”.
