This isn’t just the inspiration for Kill Bill, this *IS* Kill Bill. Hell, Tarantino may have ripped half of his entire directorial style from this movie alone. But who cares, because it. fucking. ROCKS.

An epic road to revenge, trodden by a psychotically badass Meiko Kaji and paved with gallons upon gallons of spurting blood. And when I say “spurting”, I don’t mean sprayed, I mean blasted with a damn industrial power washer. Like, this chick literally cuts entire bodies cleanly in half. Impeccable. *chef’s kiss*

Is there an overwhelming amount of backstory narration? Yes, but it fits. Every scene commits itself fully to the film’s outrageous tone, complete with eerie, striking trumpet cues and melodramatic dialogue dripping with hatred and spite. Lady Snowblood’s rage is palpable, and her determination, relentless—to the point where even Inigo Montoya would say “hey dude, maybe chill out for a bit”.

Pure, thirst-quenching exhilaration from start to finish.
