📽️ Mike Krause 🎬’s review published on Letterboxd:
Amazing that a 3 hour biopic with all dialogue & no "action" can be so engrossing, but Nolan does it again. He turned the story of the "American Prometheus" into an enthralling & heart pounding achievement of cinema. He deftly balances the excitement of the bomb race with the morality for its use, while weaving the narrative between time frames to maximize tension.
While I still think I prefer Interstellar and The Dark Knight from a purely rewatchable stance at this point, this is maybe his crowning accomplishment as a filmmaker so far. Can't recommend it more highly, see it on the biggest screen possible.
The score and editing especially were standouts, along with Cillian. I expect an Oscar for the latter two, along with possibly Best Adapted Screenplay.
Also fuck yeah(!!!!) that a 3 hour rated R historical biopic made $80m in its first weekend. The Nolan brand is strong.
