My birthday is in 5 days, and all i can think about is how it won't be nearly as enthralling.
Serious Review :
I am so happy I saw this film in theaters, and went into it blindly as well. (despite the media's attempt to show me the entire movie in clips)
If I would have seen LongLegs at home, it would be deducted from my rating... I'm guessing. The loud tension in stuck moments, and the centered angles were beautifully done. The thing that stuck out to me the most would be the acting as a whole, with what I consider a perfect cast. If I wanted to pick that apart though, I was shockingly most impressed with the mothers performance overall. Her demeanor and speaking patterns made the theatre's air feel thick. Before we even are greeted by the mother, we hear her phone conversations with Lee; How does Alicia Witt manage to give us an amazing performance over a PHONE CALL? I would like to know, it was chilling.
Going into the movie I was most excited for Nicholas Cage's role. ( Of course!) Not expecting another character to give us a more chilling performance (In my opinion). I will say that his character was the glue of the film, and gave us the monster that we all expect when going to see a horror film. I loved this "monster" and enjoyed the work put into the physicality of it. Nicholas Cage will always entertain me with any role, but I especially loved this one!
The bad news of it all is the actual plot... unfortunately I was left satisfied. Which is something I despise after seeing a film. When a film over-explains how the dots connect, they lose a curious audience. The plot all seems to tie together like a neat bow, and answers any questions you may have had. The Evil being something from the devil himself was extremely disappointing. It felt lazy and to me was a less of a threat than something unspoken. The whole idea of the doll having this ball in its head that was somehow connected with the devil to make people crazy is.... stupid. I didn't enjoy that threat in this horror universe, and would've loved to see Cage's character involved more in the act.
