Barbenheimer part 2:

Christopher Nolan is one of my favorite directors (Ik how original). As someone who was disappointed with his last two movies, this was such a welcome return to form. From the first test of the bomb to the very last scene is arguably the best work of his career. 

Cillian Murphy has been one of the most underrated actors in the business for a long time. He delivers an amazing performance here. Emily Blunt is also a standout. Her “testimony” scene & her final scene both got by far the biggest reactions of any scene in my theater. It’s nice to see RDJ in a movie again (Dolittle doesn’t count). Everybody in the cast got at least one scene to shine & there’s too many to just list off. 

There’s a lot of dread & genuinely sickening stuff here. The last scene between Oppie & Einstein might be the best ending to a Nolan movie yet. The cinematography & score are what you’d expect from Nolan (beautiful with lots of bwaaaa). The sound mixing is also a million times better than tenet. 

Overall, this is one of Nolan’s best movies, with amazing Oscar worthy performances. If Barbie focuses on how terrible the structure of our society is, and the people who have power in it. Oppenheimer quite literally ends with a glimpse of what those idiots are now capable of thanks to the events of the story here.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how insane Barbenheimer is. We got two absolute banger, legendary movies, in the same weekend. It’s become the first meme to actually be successful. Instead of eating into each other, they’ve boosted each others box office numbers & temporarily united people behind a common cause: going to the movies. I haven’t seen parking lots this full since Endgame. Barbenheimer has spawned a discourse of pure love and joy of movies, and I doubt we’ll see anything like it for a long time, if ever. Here’s hoping we get one last go round come awards season. Both movies are deserving in every aspect.
