10/10 bpm almost over 110, entire body shaking even after twenty minutes of credits rolling, sweating from everywhere and gasping every time nicolas cage was on screen. this was my state during the entire runtime and it is with huge satisfaction that I can say; Longlegs is terrifying just like everyone says it is and, not only terrifying, but also an almost perfect horror film. it did have some issues here and there, but overall it is a successful work of art.
you got oscar worthy performances, a sound composer that wanna kills you by deafening your ears (complimentary), a score composer that creates the perfect kind of an adrenaline rush with his violin strings and cursed piano tiles, a cinematographer bringing the beauty of horror to the surface with his aesthetically careful way of setting a decor and a director that had one and only goal: drive you crazy with his playful tension and scares (if that makes sense) (it makes sense to me anyway). oh and of course, the writing of a visionary man (osgood perkins is getting two shoutouts in this long ass review because he deserves it).
for everyone wondering if nicolas cage is scary enough, he is, but not in the way you might think. the reason why he makes us hold our breath and lose control of our muscles (happened to me anyway) is because of the sinister energy he maintains while on screen. just a wonderful actor who’s in need of acclaim.
anyways, longlegs will be such a perfect halloween costume!
