Who knew Danny McBride would be the best new character in an Alien film.
What an absolute let down after Prometheus. In my opinion, that film took its time and was more focused on story than spectacle. Within the first thirty minutes, Covenant has Xenomorphs flying all over the place. I think that’s a mistake. With all of these films, less is more. I’m not scared of something if it’s constantly around
Besides Danny McBride, the entire crew is forgettable, even the main actress. There are way too many of them, and they make stupid decisions. David is obviously very sketchy, maybe don’t follow him down into a dark basement Captain?
I do really like the David storyline. The idea of humans being destroyed by the thing we created
is just textbook sci-fi thrills. However, unlike Prometheus, there is a giant exposition scene thrown in the middle of the David encounter. It is necessary, but the scene is just jarring. I would’ve honestly preferred David just telling us what he did rather than the cutaway. Also, the plot twist at the end was very obvious. It was annoying just waiting for the unveiling.
So yeah, I’m glad I gave these movies a rewatch. Supposedly a new Alien film is releasing next year? I’m hoping for less Xenomorphs and more Danny McBride.
