This movie has good style, but too much slo-mo, an amazing performance by Albert Brooks, but agonizing slow cinema dialogue, a bumping soundtrack, and Cranston and Pearlman really having so much fun. But the thing that kills it for me is actually Goslings performance which I know is suppose to be wooden and dry except for one scene where he becomes confusingly animated. Honestly a lot of his performance made me laugh, is it a sneaky meta comedy? NWR goes off the rails with his film Only God Forgives so it’s not that bad but shutting down the charisma machine that is Ryan Gosling does not work for me. No idea what to rate this.
