I think the movie is about sexuality?
Talking about wives, Winslow never had one
Masturbating to the mermaid
The two men almost kissing and beating each other up for it
Winslow destroying the mermaid statue
The lighthouse and shot of a man’s back during his masturbation session
Winslow dominating Thomas in the end and putting him on a leash
These key moments really stood out to me and leads me to think the film is about Winslow discovering his attraction for men too which is why he destroys the statue, almost kisses Thomas & puts him on a leash and eventually coming out when he goes up to the lighthouse and unlocks it (essentially him coming out of the closet).
I may be totally off and the sexuality stuff could be a subplot but it’s what stood out to me the most in the entire film
