The ultimate quarantine movie
Just as mesmerizing, terrifying, hilarious, tension-filled and wonderfully bizarre on a second viewing, with the added bonus of being able to understand MUCH more the dialogue and therefore the intricacies and subtleties of the characters. With every viewing I’m slowly developing my own interpretation of it more and more, although it’d be foolish for now to try and give any sort of explanation for it since I’m sure there’s a lot more to dissect.
Regardless this is still undoubtedly a modern horror classic, and Willem Dafoe’s performance here is truly top 10 of all time material. Robert Eggers is already a masterful director only with his second feature, I can’t wait to see what else he has in store.
