This is everything I want in holiday viewing. Light, silly, and melodramatic. Also you can look at your phone pretty regularly. Makes for a very relaxing experience. Cosy Saturday arvo screentime.
I've always been a fan of these villain-on-the-phone, "follow my instructions and no one gets hurt" movies. Flicks like Phone Booth and Nick of Time. They're simple, they don't break any new ground, but they deliver on their promise. Carry-On is a perfect popcorn movie. It's not challenging, it's well made, and doesn't overstay its welcome. I literally made popcorn midway through because it just felt right.
This was better than I expected too! Great set-pieces and great use of the one location as if they were inspired by the airport scene in Casino Royale.
Jason Bateman as the villain was a treat.
