Some people are not fans of animated films. They are often dismissed as lesser versions of live action and therefore not taken seriously.
This attitude can be extremely frustrating when animated films can be so rich in content and tell us so much about ourselves, often more so than any live action film ever could.
When Wall-E first arrived in our consciousness, it gave us an insight in to what life could look like if we failed to take care of our planet, and The Wild Robot carries a similar message. Yhe story is a simple one as 'Roz' is washed up on an island with only the animal inhabitants for company. After accidentally killing the family of an unborn gosling, she vows to stay and help him fly the nest.
The voices are perfectly cast and the likes of Lupita Nyong'o and Pedro Pascal bring such emotion and humour to their roles, but the real winner is the animation itself. The colours and style create such stunning mise-en-scene throughout and you will spend the hour and fifty minutes running time, feeling privileged that you get to witness it.
The relationships between the characters grow so organically and help us to understand what is truly important in life more than most live movies I've seen.
For those who would normally dismiss an animation as less important, then think again as The Wild Robot gives us something new, fresh and cinematically remarkable.
