Mark Cunliffe 🇵🇸’s review published on Letterboxd:
Happy 60th birthday Madge!
Remember how when Top of the Pops would show the music video to Into the Groove they (or perhaps the video itself?) would abruptly cut from the scene where Madonna dries her pits with the changing room hand dryer, for fear that society would lose its shit at the thought of a young woman actually perspiring? And this from a music show that allowed a presenter, the uber-irritant then Radio 1 DJ Steve Wright, to introduce her as a 'sleazebag'!
As for the film itself? Meh. I hadn't actually seen it since I was a kid. I didn't think much of it then and I'm afraid I still don't. It's culturally interesting and there's a degree of nostalgia to be had viewing it again now but let's not kid ourselves this was ever a great film. Did Susan Seidelman ever make a good movie? Cookie and She-Devil were both pants too.
